cEdit Version 4.9.9
Version 1.0 of cEdit was written in Visual Basic. Since
then it's come a long way. Version 1 was SDI, lacked FTP, lacked external language
support, lacked many of the features of later versions, and was just generally
far more simplistic. It utilized CodeMax for
it's highlighting support.
Versions 2-4 also utilized CodeMax but introduced MDI and more features as they progressed.
The later versions of version 4 started using codesense to provide autocomplete. and
features which are now expected in cEdit started making their way in, including FTP, project
support, etc.
The last and final version 4 release actually uses ScintillaVB, which
is an ActiveX wrapper control for Scintilla written by
me. It kept all of the previous features of 4 but intorudced far more advanced syntax highlighting.
The code for this is freely available and you may use it however you wish, including modifying and re releasing it.
The only thing I do ask is you keep the name in tact and leave my name and website in the credits or about box.
I tried opening it to allow people to utilize the source as a base for a more specific editor in the past but to many
people abused that and released applications with different names but no changes taking full credit for the work.
The only circumstances where I will authorize changing the name is if you do take the application and
make signifigant changes to it to suite specific needs. But I ask that you please contact me and show me your
modified version.
